Security Arrest 20-Year-Old Man for Wearing Military Attire, Threatening Museveni

Kampala — Security agencies have arrested a 20-year-old man, Ivan Musana, for allegedly impersonating a military officer and issuing threats against President Yoweri Museveni and the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in a viral social media video.

In the video, which was circulated on TikTok, Musana is seen wearing what appears to be a military jacket and warning President Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi to “pack their belongings and flee” as Uganda heads toward the January 15 general elections.

Confirming the arrest, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala said preliminary investigations established that Musana is not a member of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

“Findings indicate that the suspect falsely presented himself as a UPDF officer while recording the video,” Kawala said.

She added that Musana was tracked down and arrested in Bukedea District before being transferred to Kawempe Police Station, where he is currently being held as investigations continue.

“The case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and advice,” Kawala noted.

Police have cautioned members of the public against abusing social media platforms, especially during the election period.

Kawala reminded Ugandans that content constituting threats, hate speech, or impersonation of security personnel is punishable under the law and may lead to prosecution.
